How to find your horse's noseband size

Helping you find the perfect fit.

All horses are unique, so why should we try and put them into one box for noseband size? Inca Equestrian nosebands are made differently, with a wide range of sizes to suit every horse.

One-size-fits-all is out and proper fit is in! Here's how to correctly measure up for your new Inca Equestrian bitless noseband.

Step 1: Measure your horse

You'll need to measure the circumference of your horse's nose at the correct position for the noseband. That's about 3cm (or a couple of fingers' width) down from the point of the cheekbone. Measure as you would fit a noseband: with about 2 fingers' width of space between the tape and the nose.

You can use a fabric tape measure or just grab a bit of string, mark the end point and measure the length when laid out flat. You'll need this measurement in centimetres.

Step 2: Work out your size

Look up your horse's size in the table below. Choose the size closest to your horse's measurement, but bear in mind the size of the metalwork you plan to use.

If you're using a wide hackamore, this will add quite a bit onto your noseband, and you may want to opt for a smaller size. Conversely, if you plan to use a sidepull or a pad on the lower strap, you will need to have a bit of extra room in your noseband and may need to choose a larger size.

Step 3: Add your metalwork

Inca Equestrian nosebands are sized to work with both a smaller ring (for a sidepull or cavesson) or a larger hackamore shank. Once you've added your metalwork, you will need to check the fit of your noseband and adjust the straps up/down accordingly.
